The scientific departments subordinate directly to the director. Their mission consists in scientific-research work, publishing activities and implementation of the research results. Scientific works involve all the employees, postgraduate students, external associates or other organizations associates. The departments provide qualified fulfilment of grant and commercial tasks, foreign and native scientific and technical projects. They participate in acquisition of non-budgetary financial sources for the institute. Based on expectations and civil demands, the departments propose new VEGA grant projects, scientific-technical projects financed partially from the budget of SAS, integrated projects of science and technics financed partially from the budget of SAS, scientific-research studies and projects of international scientific-technical co-operation.
        For solving of particular scientific or scientific-technical projects having an interdisciplinary nature, the research teams are formed during the solving period, headed by principal investigator. The heads of research teams are the project leaders, whose functions issue from the authorship or acquisition of the project.
