Markušovce - the village very rich of historical monuments is located not far from Spišská Nová Ves. It was founded in the 12th century and a few centuries later a castle a several manor houses were built here by the Maryassy family. The castle dates from 1284 and in the 14th century a gothic palace and fortification were constructed. In 1527 the castle was conquered and burned down - later attempts for reconstruction have not contributed much to the state. The most interesting buildings are the manor house and a "summer house" Dardanely. Nowadays an exposition of pianos is installed there. In Markušovce there are another two manor houses, both of them from the 18th century. Interesting is also the Roman St. Michael's church from 1280 with a valuable portal.

An interesting walk can enrich your visit in Markušovce - path leading to a unique natural creature - stone mushroom of Markušovce starts there and continues further to Volovské vrchy mountains.
