Červený Kláštor
- this small village on the border with Poland is attracting tourists from all around
the world with its unique rafting voyage on the Dunajec river. Its starts in Červený Kláštor harbour (or also in the nearby Spišská Stará Ves) and takes appr. 1 hour. During the journey under the
Three crown mountain you will know the beauties and legends of the
river, region and hills around. The route finishes in Lesnica,
where you can (in the Pieniny cottage) get a refreshment, hire bikes for the way back (you
can leave them back in Červený Kláštor) or use a bus for the way
back. However, a pleasant walk along the river can also be attractive for some visitors - it will strengthen the whole impression.
If you also like history, you can visit the monastery with its museum
in Červený Kláštor. The monastery has a rich history - it was built
in the 14th century and just like in Kláštorisko (the Slovak paradise
National park) the life here was governed according the rules of the Carthusians.
The Carthusian monks were not allowed
to speak to one another, gathered only during divine services and prayers and spent a lot of
time with copying books. Cartusians still exist - there are still several monasteries in the
